Being the longest variety of cotton (3.8 – 4.4cm), Egyptian cotton is renowned for its durability and soft feel. Though produced from the same plant species as Pima cotton, Egyptian cotton is stronger and softer, due to the hot, dry climate of the Nile River Valley.

"Extra-long staple cotton" refers to a type of cotton fiber that is longer in length compared to standard cotton fibers. Staple length refers to the length of the individual fibers that make up cotton threads.

Double-mercerized Egyptian cotton refers to a specific type of cotton thread that has undergone a special mercerization process.
Mercerization is a textile treatment process that improves the properties of cotton fibers. The cotton yarn or fabric is treated with a caustic soda solution under tension, causing the fibers to swell and straighten. This process increases the cotton's luster, strength, and affinity for dye, resulting in a smoother and more lustrous appearance.
